About Equipping Bible Church
Church Overview
Equipping Bible Church is a non-denominational Bible church committed to bringing clear, biblical, Christ centered, Spirit led, expository teaching through, “… the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27) and Christ centered worship to the Upstate, SC area. We proclaim Jesus Christ, “… admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ.” (Colossians 1:28)
This ministry was born in 2021 as God impressed upon the heart of our pastor, Greg Lundstedt, that there was an opportunity to bring a Christ centered, biblically based, ministry of God’s Word to the Greenville/Spartanburg area. During this time, God was impressing the same need upon the hearts of others also.
Beginning with a home Bible study, we then stepped out in faith with our first Sunday worship service in August 2021. From the beginning, we have been committed to the proclamation of His life-changing Word. We are a local church, experiencing the spiritual growth and blessings that God brings as we obey His Word and serve Him together.
Our Philosophy of Ministry
We desire to be obedient to our Lord by applying a biblical philosophy of ministry that understands a primary function of the church is to glorify God through “equipping the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ” with the two goals of “the unity of the faith, and the knowledge of the Son of God to a mature man” (Eph. 4:11-13). This is done in obedience to Matthew 28:19 as we “Go therefore and make disciples” which is done primarily through “teaching them to observe” all the Lord has commanded. The Holy Spirit accomplishes this growth and maturation (John 14:26) through the Word, as we humbly depend on, abide in and submit to Christ. We recognize that in everything we must abide in Jesus and let His Word abide in us, because as Jesus said in John 15:5, “for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Church Leadership
Equipping Bible Church is led by elders (Acts 14:23; Phil. 1:1; Titus 1:5), men who possess and exhibit the requirements prescribed in the New Testament (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9; 1 Peter 5:1-5). Equal in authority, the elders make their decisions in prayerful unity and unanimity with the guidance of the Holy Spirit in submission to Jesus Christ and His written Word (Acts 15:6-29; 20:17-32). When needed, the elders may appoint men and women to non-leadership roles (i.e., deacon & deaconess) to assist the ministry. These recognized servants must also possess and exhibit the requirements prescribed in the New Testament (1 Timothy 3:8-13). We recognize at times there may be periods of waiting on the Lord to bring and manifest those He desires and has qualified to serve as elders when an elder has resigned or moved from the area.
How We Minister and Serve
The New Testament does not make a distinction between clergy and laity; therefore, you will not find a senior pastor at Equipping Bible Church. What you will find is that an elder who has the spiritual gifting of pastor/teacher performs the preaching. Likewise, since every believer has been given one or more spiritual gift(s) and is commanded to use them (1 Peter 4:10-11), we help, exhort, and encourage each believer to discover and use their spiritual gift(s) in God’s strength to serve one another. Again, as Jesus said, “…apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). And as the apostle Paul stated, “Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant” (2 Corinthians 3:5-6). Indeed, there is significant pain, exhaustion, burnout, and often bitterness when we attempt to serve in our own strength and in areas that we are not gifted and equipped. Our desire is that you experience the great joy and privilege that accompanies serving God in His strength, with the gift(s) and talents He has given you.
How It All Comes Together
Finally, we firmly believe that nothing compares to the “surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:8). Also, we understand that God has ordained us to enter into and grow in our relationship with Christ through His Word (1 Thess. 2:13; I Peter 1:23-25, 2:1-3; 1 John 1:3). As we grow in love, faith and obedience to the Lord, we will grow in our love for fellow believers (2 Thess. 1:3; 1 John 5:1-4). Therefore, we desire that every aspect of this ministry be grounded in the Word, so that we would know Christ in a deeper way, love God, love each other and be equipped for life and eternity. Jesus said, “… It is written, ‘MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'” (Matthew 4:4).
We would love to have you join us as we seek to glorify God together on this journey of faith through our glorious Lord, Jesus Christ.
